The Brief

Two neighbouring terraces in Paddington were joined into a single home, with interiors by Studio Jos, construction by GC Built and project management by The Collective Project. The front rooms kept their original detail: ceiling roses, arched openings, marble fireplaces and tall windows. Behind them, a new extension put the kitchen, living and dining behind walls of glass.

The window furnishings had to suit both halves of the house, soft and tailored at the front, light and unbroken at the back, and still read as one home.

What you’re looking at

  • S-Wave sheers on ceiling-mounted track around every wall of glass in the rear extension
  • Sheer fabric: Martin & Savage Aphrodite, colour Pristine, with weighted hems so they hang straight
  • Euro pleat curtains in Kvadrat Sahco Silkwood 2, colour 110, layered over Euro pleat sheers in the front rooms
  • Forest CRS 28mm channel rods in a stainless Inox finish
  • Blockout-lined curtains on a Forest MRS motorised rod in the main bedroom
  • Roman blinds in Silkwood 2 and Aphrodite in the guest bedroom and main ensuite

Our Solution

In the rear extension, S-Wave sheer curtains in Martin & Savage Aphrodite, colour Pristine, run on ceiling-mounted track around every wall of glass, with weighted hems so they hang straight.

In the front living and sitting rooms, Euro pleat sheers in Aphrodite are layered with Euro pleat dim-out drapes in Kvadrat Sahco Silkwood 2, colour 110, on Forest CRS 28mm channel rods in a stainless Inox finish. The main bedroom has the same layered pairing, with the drapes lined in blockout and running on Forest MRS motorised rods. The guest bedroom's French doors have the same sheer-and-drape pairing on hand-drawn rods, and roman blinds in Silkwood 2 and Aphrodite sit in the guest bedroom window and the main ensuite.

Every curtain and sheer was cut and sewn in our Bathurst workroom. The project was supplied with our sister company, Home Blinds Australia.

The Result

From the front door to the back of the house, every window is dressed in the same ivory and oatmeal palette, so the two terraces read as one home. The sheers soften the light across the herringbone floors of the extension, and at the front the layered curtains close the rooms in at night.
