The Problem We Solve
High windows above a stairwell. A skylight you can't reach. A wide bank of stacker door blinds where operating every chain is a chore. West-facing bedrooms where you forget to close the blind before the afternoon sun arrives, and wake up in a hot room. In a Central West home where morning light and western sun management are genuinely relevant every day, manual operation of window treatments creates real, daily friction.
Motorisation replaces that friction with a single button press, or with automation that means you never have to think about it at all. Quicksew specifies and installs motor systems across all product types: roller blinds, curtain tracks, outdoor blinds and Zipscreens. Battery, 12V or 240V depending on the application.
Here's how to choose the right one for your space.
If you…
You're in an existing home and running new cable through walls or ceilings would be disruptive. Battery DC motors fit inside the roller tube, no visible motor, no electrician required. Recharge via USB every 4-12 months. The practical solution for retrofitting motorisation to existing treatments.

You're building or renovating and can run low-voltage cable before the plasterboard goes on. 12V hardwired motors are quieter, smoother, and have a lower lifetime cost than battery. Perfect for bedrooms and living rooms where motor noise matters. Integrates with most home automation systems.

You already have or plan a smart home system, Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, or a dedicated automation platform. Specify motor brands compatible with your platform from the start. Voice control, sunrise/sunset scheduling, and sensor-triggered operation all come from the motor-to-platform connection.

Often, yes. Many existing roller blinds can take a retrofit motor, depending on the barrel size, the existing mechanism and the age of the product. We can assess what's possible at a service visit and recommend the right system for your blinds.
It depends on the motor. Battery-operated motors need no wiring at all, which makes them ideal for retrofits. Hardwired low-voltage and mains-voltage motors need a licensed electrician for the final connection. We advise exactly what's required at the quoting stage.
You can control motorised blinds and curtains by remote handset, wall switch, smartphone app, voice, or an automated schedule, with optional sun and wind sensors that open or close them for you. It's especially handy for high windows, large openings, skylights and accessible homes.
Yes. Motorisation removes the cords and chains from a blind or curtain entirely, which makes it the safest option for homes with young children and pets. It connects to smart-home systems too, so windows can open on a schedule or by command.
Most of the Quicksew range can be motorised, roller blinds, curtain tracks, outdoor blinds and zipscreens, panel glides, romans, verticals and honeycomb systems. Motorisation suits large, high or hard-to-reach windows and cord-free, child-safe homes. We'll tell you exactly what's possible for your windows and the best control option at your free measure.
