The Problem We Solve

Most Window Treatments Are a Compromise. Plantation Shutters Aren't.

Cheap blinds warp in the first summer. The cords go slack. The colours yellow. You replace them every few years. Plantation shutters solve all of this by being permanent. They're not a furnishing you swap out, they're an architectural upgrade.

Plantation shutters solve all of this by being permanent. They're not a furnishing you swap out, they're an architectural element of the room. Custom-built to your exact window, installed once, and maintained with nothing more than a wipe. In Australian conditions, with scorching summers and cold winter mornings, a quality shutter delivers genuine thermal performance that no blind can match.

Which Option Is Right for Your Home?

Here's how to choose the right one for your space.

If you…

Have bathrooms, kitchens, or high-moisture rooms

PVC/polyresin shutters are the answer. They handle humidity and direct water contact without warping, moulding, or discolouring. Wipe them clean in seconds. The most popular choice for wet areas, and increasingly chosen for whole-home installations for their longevity.

If you…

Want timber warmth and wide panel capability

Basswood shutters are the industry benchmark for painted timber. Lighter than PVC so larger panels stay manageable, with a fine grain that takes a smooth paint finish. The right choice for living rooms and bedrooms in Federation-era and contemporary homes. Not for wet areas.

If you…

Want precise light control without getting up

Tier-on-tier shutters give you two independent panels stacked vertically, open the top while keeping the bottom closed, or vice versa. Perfect for ground-floor living rooms on street-facing elevations where you want privacy at sitting height but light from above.

Frequently asked questions

Do plantation shutters add value to a home?

Generally yes. Plantation shutters are fitted permanently to the window, so they count as a built-in home improvement rather than a furnishing, and buyers tend to see them as part of the home. They also read as a premium, lasting finish that doesn't date.

What's better for shutters, timber or aluminium?

It depends on the room. Basswood timber gives a warm, classic finish that's ideal for living rooms and bedrooms. Powder-coated aluminium is waterproof and rust-resistant, so it suits bathrooms, kitchens, outdoor areas and coastal homes. We'll recommend the right material for each window at your measure.

Are plantation shutters good for insulation?

Yes. The solid frame and closed louvres add a layer against heat and cold at the window. Tilt the louvres to control light and privacy in one move. Close them fully on a hot afternoon or a cold night and they help hold the room's temperature.

Can plantation shutters be made for unusual or heritage windows?

Yes. Every shutter is specified to your exact opening, so they sit flush in awkward reveals, period frames and non-standard shapes. Nothing is cut down from a stock size. Our measurer accounts for the frame and how the shutter needs to open.
